Current Volunteer Opportunities:
Calling Post: Time commitment = 1 hour / month
Calling post is a web-based service we use to call registered members of the Neighborhood Watch in the event of a real time emergency. We are looking for a volunteer to manage the account and to add and delete members.
Google Group: Time Commitment = 1 hour / month
The APNW Google group is the primary method used to communicate Neighborhood Watch information to the neighborhood. We are looking for a volunteer to manage access to the account by adding and deleting members. The average person can be trained to do this job in about 30 minutes.
Master List: Time Commitment = 1 hour / month
The Neighborhood Watch Master List is a requirement of the Durham Police Department. As the name implies, the Master List contains all the contact information for all the registered members of the Neighborhood Watch. The owner of this list has the responsibility to keep this information under lock and key, and to reconcile quarterly with the residence list from Talis Management Group Inc. The owner also has the responsibility to pass on add / delete information to the Calling Post and Google Group coordinators.
Block Captains: Time Commitment = 3 hours / year
Block Captains are a core group of volunteers that run the Neighborhood Watch program. In addition to the activities listed above, a Block Captain will attend an annual meeting, help coordinate the National Night Out event, and attend the Durham Partners Against Crime (PAC) meetings.
